Private label: separate the logo from the pack

A logo direction, a retail pack and an export mark need different decisions. Keep them separate in your first brief.

Name the surface and the purpose

A mark on a handle is a different request from a printed sleeve or an export-carton mark. Explain where the brand should appear and what the pack needs to communicate. The demo private-label options are discussion prompts; they do not establish production feasibility.

  • Identify the product and proposed logo location.
  • Describe the retail presentation: card, sleeve, box or still open.
  • Keep shipping marks separate from consumer-facing artwork.

Ask what changes the order

Material, surface shape, print process and artwork can affect feasibility and cost. Ask the supplier to confirm the method, setup costs, sample requirements and minimums for the specific combination. A catalog quantity is not automatically a custom-printing minimum.

Approve content as well as appearance

A packaging mockup cannot validate claims. Confirm the product specification and any market-specific labeling requirements before finalizing artwork. Avoid adding certification marks or performance claims without verified authorization and evidence.

  • Record artwork version, colors and placement.
  • Agree who reviews instructions, warnings and claims.
  • Confirm pack dimensions and approval steps before a larger order.

Keep this in your brief

A first brief can say what is undecided. A clear open question is more useful than an assumed printing method.
